History of YWAM Veracruz

Back around 1990, there was a small group of Christians in Cerro Azul, Veracruz who met weekly to study the Bible together. As their group grew, they got a pastor, and decided that it was time they build a church. David’s parents, Felipe and Maria Teran, were responsible for this process, and bought a parcel of land outside of town, and the building process began. Before they got a roof on the building, the group went their separate ways, and the construction came to a stop. David’s parents knew that God had something bigger in mind than what they could see, and they continued investing time and money into the building. The group left the land in their care, knowing that they would know what God was telling them to do with it.   At that time, David was getting into all sorts of trouble while he went to college in Mexico City. Little did his parents know that the building they were investing in was going to be their son’s home and ministry base one day! At the age of 19, David moved to Monterrey and gave his heart to Jesus, and joined YWAM shortly after. While doing an internship at Harvestime Church in 1999, he heard God speak to him very clearly about returning to his hometown and starting a ministry there- pretty much the last place he ever intended on settling! At the same time, Leah was in Monterrey leading teams with YWAM, when God spoke to her about the ministry He had for her in Veracruz, a place she’d never been before! In December of 2000 they were married. When Felipe and Maria knew of their hearts for pioneering a ministry in Cerro Azul, they were very excited to donate the property and the building to David and Leah to use for a YWAM base. It’s taken a lot of work to get it to the point it is today, and there’s a lot of work left to do, but it’s been a very exciting process, and it’s awesome to see how God has been using all sorts of people to work His plan over the years!
